Dirty Larry

Weather enthusiasts may know that a big cyclone, codename Larry, struck Queensland last week.

(Footnotes: Queensland is a state of Australia, and I live in queensland. A cyclone is the same thing as a hurricane, only it's in the southern hemisphere and hence spins clockwise instead of anti-clockwise.)

My wife and i were on holiday in the affected region at the time. It was exciting, windy, etc. We survived and we're back.

Here's a diagram.

That's the only way you can truly enjoy destruction on such a massive scale--when it's someone else's stuff. That way, you can just focus on taking pictures and whatnot--that's not your Honda thrown into the front window of (someone else's) business. You're just there on vacation!

I'm kidding. :) Natural disasters are serious business and I feel for the victims, etc

A software developer holidaying in glamorous Port Douglas? - pigs must fly

(Port Douglas is my not-to-scale guestimate based on the "just north of Cairns" location of your blue cross :) )

good guess axr.

port douglas isn't so glamorous as it was in the Scase days. now it's mostly just burnt out caravans and tenements full of squatters. ;-)

And you can get a free ride from Cairns, if you stay in some hostel (I forgot the name)

'Cairns hostels' on Thu, 03 Feb 2011 05:50:45 GMT, sez:

Yes! I agree with your thoughts. I like to travel too and I have found Cairns hostels to be the best among all. I have been there and they have satisfied me well. Those who like to travel can try this. Cairns hostels
