Stepping out of Luddite Land

i bought my first *EVER* dvd player on the weekend.

it was really intimidating -- the guy in the shop treated me like i had leprosy and was all like, 'ha ha ha welcome to the twenty first century, loser!'

he tried to sell me the most expensive model in the store and was all like, 'this one's got multi-zone, multi-format ZPX 1.3 and various multi-plex decoding emulators that a luddite with leprosy wouldn't understand,' and so on.

and i was all like, 'but what about THAT one, over THERE -- it's retro and groovy looking and only forty dollars and it takes TWO dvd's at once!'

and he was all like 'dude. that's a toaster.'

so i settled on a mid-range DVD unit that plays most formats and only does one piece of toast at a time.

now i just got to wait for Lano and Woodley's DVD to come out (in one week!).

Finally another post! I've been sitting in front of my browser for 2 weeks staring at the screen and hitting refresh every 10 seconds and finally the screen changes! (Lucky people bought food around for me or I'd be dead!)
DVD, eh? Yeah, welcome to the nineties. I'm waiting for stand-alone DVD recorders with built in hard disks to get to less than a 3rd of their current price. I've never even lived in the same house as a DVD player or a dishwasher.

I'm so excited to hear that I in fact wasn't the last person on earth to buy a DVD player! Despite what my brother says. Farmer Jeb...I feel sad for you. :)

don't listen to that brother of yours, Patricia. Same goes for you Farmer Jeb.

I think you're both real cool people. You can borrow my horse and cart just after the harvest.

Oh, Jeb, there's this thing you can use called an 'RSS aggregator' which will poll the site for you. But i'm guessin you knew that ;-)

Ha! A friend gave me his old DVD player on the weekend!! He gave it to someone else 1st but they couldn't figure out how to plug it in so I got it. I hope I can figure it out! I'll check out this RSS thing too.

Yes well, if you knew how small the town was that I grew up in, you'd know that your 'horse & cart' statements hold quite a bit of fact.

What's a DVD player? Is it like a PS2? I have one of those and it sometimes plays DVDs. I've found the less, erm... kocher ones tend not to work though.

'secretGeek' on Mon, 22 Nov 2004 21:55:04 GMT, sez:

ps2? what is that!? a bit like Atari? does it do donkey kong?

yeh patricia, i too have emerged from a one-donkey town.
