Here's another gotcha and correction. I created a custom login form in its own application for SharePoint 2007 over ActiveDirectory. In my login form, I reference a few of my own Web services. I created my own virtual directory for the login form, made sure it was an application and used same pool as SharePoint, and modified SharePoint's web.config to reference my custom form as login page.

My custom login form crashed when I was trying to set credentials for the first Web service call with EnvironmentPermissions problem. After a bit of futzing found that the problem was my virtual directory's web.config was inheriting the SharePoint web.config's "trust" setting ("WSS_Minimal").

Tried fixing this problem by trusting my assembly using .NET framework config tool; no joy. Finally fixed this problem by specifying 'trust="Full"' in my login form's web.config and everything worked as expected.
